Balancing Organizational Regulation and Agent Autonomy: An MDE-Based Approach

چکیده
The deployment of agent societies —as complex systems— in dynamic and unpredictable settings brings forth critical issues concerning their design. Organizational models have been advocated to specify open systems in dynamic environments in order to accomplish the need to represent regulating structures explicitly and independently from acting components (or agents). Despite several frameworks have been proposed for the specification of organizational models, it is still a matter of design choice how to balance between regulative design and component flexibility. We propose a design framework, discussing its advantages of having different degrees of abstraction at organizational level in the development of agent societies. That is, we illustrate how the design properties differently impact the flexibility of run-time systems to cope with context changes. To deliver on such an aim, we adopt the OperA software engineering methodology to deal with the organizational model specification, and the Model Driven Engineering (MDE) mechanisms to map concepts between different design models.

In knowledge-based economy, knowledge has a public good and non-rivalry nature. Firms build their own knowledge stock not only by means of internal R&D and collaboration with partners, but also by means of previously spilled over knowledge of other firms and public research laboratories (such as universities). Firms based on their absorptive capacity, and level of intra-industry and extra-indus...

The identification of the cognitive, affective, social and even physiological factors affecting second or foreign language learning routes and rate has for long been a challenging aspiration for second language researchers. However, a recent preoccupation of the researchers in this area has been the study of the combinatorial impacts of such factors on second or foreign language learning proces...

Autonomy is an often cited but rarely agreed upon agent characteristic. Although no definition of agent autonomy is universally accepted, exploring the concept of autonomy offers many useful insights. Studying agent autonomy is important because it influences and is influenced by the degree of trust that agent designers and users place in their agents, the effectiveness of agent-based problem s...
متن کاملModel-Driven Engineering in Agent-based Modeling and Simulation: a Case Study in the Traffic Signal Control Domain
Model-driven engineering (MDE) is an approach for improving productivity in software development. This approach was exploited in the context of agent-based modeling and simulation (ABMS) only to a certain extent. Previous work has not shown real evidence of the benefits that MDE promotes in ABMS. This paper thus explores the use of MDE in ABMS with a case study in the traffic domain. We propose...
